D&AD: BBc SPARK
D&AD is a design competition across all of the UK between different Universities. Our team chose to create a project for BBC Bitesize.

Since its launch in 1998, BBC Bitesize has supported children’s learning through trusted, accessible educational content. However, our understanding of learning has evolved—today we recognise that no two children learn in the same way, and these individual differences are often overlooked by one-size-fits-all educational platforms.

BBC Spark was created in response to this challenge. The concept reimagines how the BBC could deliver education by embracing personalised learning experiences that adapt to each child rather than expecting every child to adapt to the system.
Inspired by the four core learning styles, BBC Spark tailors educational content to suit individual needs. Lessons dynamically adjust based on a child’s age, preferred learning style, and chosen subject, helping to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and support long-term knowledge retention. By presenting information in ways that feel intuitive and engaging, the app aims to make learning both more effective and more enjoyable.

BBC Spark is designed as an inclusive educational tool—one that supports every child’s potential and helps prepare young learners for a confident, curious, and successful future.
